Cleaning the "Too Hard" Basket

Find out how to clean those hard to clean items like handbags and lampshades here.

Clean a white leather handbag

Question from aezlin77 (youtube.com.au user): "How about white leather handbag? Can someone give a tips on how to clean white leather handbag?"
Answer: Use a white eraser which will get a lot of the marks out. Note that anything moist will leave water marks. Use a soft cloth and give it a buff.

Clean a fabric lampshade

Hint from Toni-Maree (Owner of elaundry): We all know lint rollers are for removing lint, fluff and pet hair from clothing but have you ever thought about using it for removing dust? Keep your fabric lampshades dust free by rolling your adhesive, sticky paper lint roller inside and out for a bright idea on clean living.

Pet hair and stain removal

Pet hair on clothing: Remove pet hair with a tape roller. Loop a ribbon or piece of string through the handle of your roller and hang it from the doorknob of your main bedrooms so they're always available for use.

Work quickly on pet stains: The sooner you can get to a pet stain, the better. Pet urine left on carpets can permanently alter the dye. Remove any solid residue first prior to working on the area. You can use a dull knife for this.

Use dishwashing liquid: Blot fresh stains with a clean white cloth. After absorbing as much moisture as possible, apply a solution of a 1/4 teaspoon of clear dishwashing liquid mixed with one cup of tepid water; blot with another clean towel. Continue alternating with a soapy towel and a clean damp towel until the stain is gone. For stale stains or persistent odours, call in the professionals to clean your floors.

Handy notes from Toni-Maree:

It is very tricky to find clear dishwashing liquid so you need to go to ecostore. ecostore wool wash works also.

After blotting etc you need to find a soft brush and brush the fibres (on both carpet and or fabric ) back todwards the centre of the stain and then blot again! This raises the sediments to the surface while not rubbing it through to the other side!
