SAUCE STAINS: Tomato-based & BBQ

Remove as much excess sauce from the fabric as possible with a spoon or dull knife, being careful not to push the stain deeper in the fabric. Run cold water through the back of the stain to force it out the way it came in.

Next, rub liquid detergent into the affected area gently until the stain is no longer visible and rinse in hot water.

You may need to treat the oily component of the stain with a stain remover treatment, and let sit for 5-10 minutes. Or, if the garment is a solid white colour, apply white vinegar with a sponge, then rinse well. Launder in the hottest water suitable for the fabric using detergent and a colour-fast bleach to remove the dye in the stain.

Assess the stain when it comes out of the wash – you may need to soak in warm water and detergent for another 30 minutes before washing again.
