VOMIT STAINS
First of all, act quickly so that as little as possible soaks in to the fibres of your clothes, carpets or furniture.
Remove as much excess vomit as possible with a spoon or dull knife, then remove residue by soaking and agitating or rubbing the stain in cold water before washing. Never use hot water because it cooks the protein in the vomit, making it hard to remove.
If the stain has dried or is old, brush off excess then soak in cold water for 30 minutes using a liquid detergent with colour-safe bleach. How easy to remove a vomit stain depends on what was eaten beforehand – for harder-to-remove stains, like grease-based proteins, you may need to soak for an additional 30 minutes.
Launder in warm – not hot – water with detergent. For lingering odours on carpets and soft furniture, sprinkle bicarbonate soda on the area and leave for 10 minutes before vacuuming.
